An epic race through a chapter of the Second World War that remains largely unknown in North America, Max Manus recounts the life of one of Europe’s most celebrated resistance fighters. This film introduces its eponymous hero as he volunteers to fight alongside the Finnish forces in their battle against Russia, which is attempting to turn Finland into a protectorate. Shortly afterwards, his beloved Norway is invaded by Nazi Germany and quickly occupied. Max Manus (Aksel Hennie) and a few friends start a small rebel cell, committing sabotage and distributing leaflets denouncing the Nazi presence. The strength of its passion and storytelling have helped make Max Manus Norway’s biggest domestic hit in more than a decade and is destined to be acclaimed for the vigour of its characters and the visceral impact of its narrative.

Awards for Max Manus:
Won, Best Actor (Aksel Hennie), Best Cinematography, Best Film, Amanda Awards (Norway), 2009
