Public Works Week
The City is committed to participating every year, to help raise awareness of services and activities related to the maintenance and operations of roads and public parks.
The City's Fleet Services Branch manages the City’s fleet of over 700 corporate vehicles and pieces of equipment. The branch consists of professional managers and technicians responsible for the supply of vehicles, vehicle maintenance and repairs. We also provide driver training and safety oversight. Fleet Services (both the repair garage and administration office) operates out of R.A Archer Operations Centre,165 Ferndale Drive North.
Since the City’s fleet is so diverse, the services provided by Fleet Services are just as varied. The different types of fleet equipment maintained includes light/medium/heavy vehicles, turf maintenance equipment, snow control equipment, handheld motorized tools, and mechanical support for the Fire Department.
Services include preventative maintenance programs, inspections, seasonal overhauls and lubrications. The fabrication shop can provide general welding, machining and metal fabrication. Our personnel technical competencies must vary to accommodate the wide range of equipment. They are provided up-to-date training and are available during all hours of operation.
Greening Barrie’s Fleet
Fleet's initiative took place in 2007 in an effort to reduce the City's overall environmental impacts. Four hybrid-powered vehicles were purchased and are used by both the Municipal Law Enforcement Section of the City Clerk’s Office as well as the Fire Prevention Branch of the Barrie Fire and Emergency Services Department. A fifth hybrid vehicle will be purchased in and an anti-idling program will be implemented for the entire Fleet.
