PRESS RELEASERhythmfest this Weekend!Tuesday, August 07, 2012 On Saturday, August 11th from 10:00am to 9:00pm, Rhythmfest, Barrie’s only truly interactive festival will be taking place in Heritage Park. This year’s event will honour Archie Alleyne, Canadian Jazz musician, educator, and member of the Order of Canada. 2012 Barrie Rhythmfest, one of Canada’s most interactive festivals, will feature workshops and performances from a variety of musical and dancing acts representing Canada’s diverse rhythmic culture.
Talented acts that will be taking the stage include Barrie’s own ‘Please and Thanks,’ Errol Lee and Victoria Mestres, Humming Bird Tassa, Celtic Blaze with tap and fiddle virtuoso Stephanie Cadman, Korean ensemble Samul Nori, the Afro-Cuban sounds of Iya Ire, and Arecibo a contemporary Latin Jazz ensemble featuring Brownman Ali. Clinics on drum kits, hand drums, Middle Eastern dancing and children’s drumming and dancing workshops will also be occurring throughout the day.
This year will also feature ‘Just Beat It!’ The Search for Barrie’s Best Drummer presented by Music Pro and BlahBlahBlah Magazine. This drum solo competition will give Barrie and area drummers the chance to perform for a panel of highly esteemed judges for a chance to win some great prizes!
