PRESS RELEASEChillin’ At Winterfest
Tuesday, January 29, 2013

The frigid temps are icing the way for one of Barrie’s most popular festivals – ‘Winterfest and The Festival of Ice.’ Named one of the Top 100 Festivals in Ontario by Festivals and Events Ontario, Barrie’s Winterfest takes place February 2nd and 3rd bringing sights and sounds of all things symbolizing wintery fun to the downtown.

Kids both big and small will be able to take part in such things as the horse drawn wagon rides, ice maze, lumberjack show, snow sculpture & slides, helicopter rides, and more!  Of course, no Winterfest would be complete without the popular polar bear swim!  For those seeking some ‘ice-art,’ The Festival of Ice features 300 pound blocks of ice carved into spectacular, themed sculptures.

If indoor activities are more your style, there’s no shortage of places to warm-up.  Learn about military history at the Grey and Simcoe Foresters Museum, play some classic games at the Barrie Public Library downtown branch, or explore the MacLaren Art Centre.  You can also go skating at one of Barrie’s arenas during select times for only $1 per person, after you start your day off right with a hearty pancake breakfast.  Plus, there are also many other exciting events taking place across the city in partnership with Winterfest, including the Barrie Film Festival’s Reel Stories, Soup’s On!, the February Blues Festival, Barrielicious, and Chili Fest.
