PRESS RELEASEEveryone Gets To Play in Barrie
Tuesday, March 05, 2013

The City of Barrie provides a wide range of recreation activities to the residents of Barrie. While subsidized by tax revenues from the citizens of Barrie, these recreation programs often include a registration fee to offset program costs.  The new RecACCESS fees assistance program is intended to promote access to the City of Barrie’s recreation programs by reducing the cost of these programs to those in financial need.
“RecACCESS is intended to ensure all residents are provided an opportunity to participate in recreation programs and activities, regardless of their financial situation,” comments Mayor Jeff Lehman. “Our new fee assistance program will provide support to individuals in Barrie, by providing qualifying participants with credits which can be applied to the registration fee for qualifying programs and activities.”
Interested participants must complete an application form and provide documents related to financial and family situation. Approved participants, including immediate family members, will have a credit added to a special RecACCESS account within the City of Barrie’s Recreation Registration System. Participants then register for the programs and activities of their choice following normal registration procedures, with the credit on their account being used to pay in whole or in part for the associated registration fees.
