Barrie City Council appointed Steve Trotter to fill the vacancy of Office of Councillor, Ward Six, to serve the remainder of the 2014 - 2018 term of office that ends on November 30, 2018.

Special Meeting of Council
City Council heard from applicants and voted to appoint persons to fill the vacancy at a special meeting on July 10, 2017 at 6 p.m.. The meeting was held in Council Chambers (70 Collier Street, Barrie) and was open to the public. It was recorded.
To be eligible for appointment a person must be:
- a Canadian citizen;
- at least 18 years of age;
- a resident of the City of Barrie, or own or rent property in the City of Barrie (or the spouse of the owner or renter); and
- not legally prohibited from voting, or from holding municipal office.
All applicants submitted an application form and provided identification showing name, signature and qualifying address within the City of Barrie. They were welcome to submit letters, biographies or related documents to be considered by City Council in support of their candidacy, which will be made available to the public including the media.
The deadline for filing an application was 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 4, 2017. All forms were filed in person and signed before a Commissioner for Taking Affidavits in Legislative & Court Services.
Withdrawing an Application
Applicants can withdraw an application at any time up to 12 noon on July 10, 2017 in writing to the City Clerk at Legislative & Court Services (1st floor, City Hall, 70 Collier Street, Barrie).
