New Barrie Public Library Branch Design and Construction Project
The new Barrie Public Library Branch is envisioned to be a 15,000 sq. ft. stand alone single storey building within the City’s Town Centre block located in the Painswick Secondary Plan area site allocated for the Town Centre and fronting onto Dean Avenue.
The Library will occupy two (2) plus acres of the full four (4) acre land parcel. The Facility will be designed to meet the following community needs: an open concept area with the ability to shelve approximately 130,000 items including books, and other format material, with delineated spaces for adults, teens, children, computers, and quiet study areas.
A multi-purpose community room, able to accommodate 100+ persons, also forms part of the design plans for this new facility as a separate space with secure interconnecting access to allow for afterhours use of the space.
The Architectural Firm of ZAS Architects was retained in 2009 to complete the design and construction specifications of this exciting new facility.
Milestone Dates: - Construction is scheduled to commence April 2010
- Substantial Completion is anticipated in May 2011
- Occupancy and Doors Open is anticipated in the Summer of 2011
