'Tap water in the province is among the safest in the world. Together with the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, we’ve taken action in June 2007 to expand drinking water safety protection and reduce potential levels of lead intake for children under six and pregnant women. The action plan includes new and proposed regulations for implementing testing at the tap for lead, providing municipalities with expert advice on water chemistry and best practices to help make lead line replacement more affordable for home owners and encouraging municipalities to conduct public education campaigns. My next report will include a discussion on this important topic. We continue to work with owners and operators of drinking water systems and stakeholders to safeguard the quality of our drinking water.”
Jim Smith, Chief Drinking Water Inspector
