Waste Management Section

The Waste Management Section of the City of Barrie is responsible for the curbside collection contracts, the management of the City of Barrie Landfill Site including the compost site, all of our waste reduction programs and the Household Special Waste Depot. The curbside collection contracts include the collection of garbage, recyclables, organics and leaf and yard waste.

Last year the curbside garbage collection program collected over 20,151 tonnes of solid waste. The blue box recycling program diverted 14,599.61 tonnes and the curbside orgranics program also diverted 2,881 tonnes of material from the landfill site.  8,265.22 tonnes of leaf and yard waste was collected in the City of Barrie in 2007.  We collect approximately 183,000 litres of material annually at the Household Special Waste Depot which collects household hazardous waste such as paints, solvents, oil, etc.  for proper disposal.

CURBSIDE PLACEMENT

To prevent debris from blowing out of your paper recycling box please place the recycling box with your containers on top of it. Place lighter items such as shredded paper inside boxboard items or at the bottom of your box to prevent them from blowing out.

If there are changes to the collection schedule, notice of the changes will be posted one week prior to the holiday.
