Celebrate Canada 150
This year, Canadians from coast-to-coast-to-coast will be celebrating 150 years as a nation. Barrie has countless reasons to join in the festivities — so let’s come together and Illuminate Barrie in honour of Canada 150.
A century and a half ago, Barrie was a small town on the shores of Kempenfelt Bay. Over the past 150 years, Barrie has grown and evolved along with our nation. We are home to many features that other countries identify as Canadian, and these same features make us proud to call Barrie home — a rich heritage, a diverse and growing population, stunning landscapes, an abundance of raw, natural spaces including parks, trails and waterfront, and access to four-season activities to name a few.
Illuminate Barrie in 2017
Canada 150 is a tremendous opportunity for residents and visitors to celebrate our country — and City — together. Experience this historical year in Barrie as we infuse our popular events and festivals with a uniquely Canadian twist and add some exciting Canada 150 initiatives to showcase Barrie’s ‘true north strong and free’ spirit!
The Illuminate Barrie logo signifies City of Barrie events and activities that celebrate Canada 150 in some way. Illuminate Barrie events and activities will kick-off on June 28 with an Air Show and run until the Illuminate Barrie Festival which takes place on Labour Day long weekend.
