Street Performers Program
The street performers program was developed in 2009 as part of the downtown revitalization efforts, with the purpose of creating a more positive atmosphere in the downtown area. Each year auditions take place through a jury process and those who are selected are permitted to share their abilities throughout the downtown city streets and engage the public.
In 2014 we are altering the program slightly: successful applicants will now become part-time employees of the City of Barrie. Only 2 performers will be selected to work for the City, however those that are unsuccessful will be provided with other opportunities to perform during special events or in areas outside of the city core.
Auditions will be held on April 22, 2014 in the City Hall Rotunda from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The 2 successful performers will be expected to begin performing in May and work throughout the summer months (June, July and August). Hours of work and performance locations will be determined by the City of Barrie’s Department of Culture in conjunction with the Downtown Barrie BIA. These locations and times will be clearly outlined for the performers in their job duties and responsibilities. Pay rates and hours of work have not yet been determined, however we will have information readily available at the April auditions.
