UPDATE

One legendry Canadian artist is out, but another is in for the upcoming Barrie International Comedy Festival Supreme Comedy Gala. Unfortunately, due to illness Mary Walsh will be unable to perform at the star studded gala coming up on September 15.
The Festival is delighted, however, to announce that Cynthia Dale has stepped in to round out the Gala performance. Dale is one of Canada’s most acclaimed and sought after performers – a ‘triple sensation’ known for her award-winning work as an actor, singer and dancer. She is known for her portrayal as Olivia Novak on the television series Street Legal and for her many years as a star performer in musicals at the Stratford Festival.
Dale will bring a musical comedy flare to the Comedy Festival Gala, performing along with an impressive line-up of comedy giants including SCTV star Andrea Martin, This Hour has 22 Minutes star Gavin Crawford, Lorne Elliott from CBC Radio’s Madly Off in All Directions and First Nations actor, improviser and comedian, Herbie Barnes. The evening will be hosted by celebrated journalist and Toronto Star theatre critic, Richard Ouzounian.

Brent Butt

Brent is best known as the creator of his own TV series – a sitcom called CORNER GAS. It became an instant hit with unprecedented ratings and numerous accolades including an International Emmy Award nomination, and was named "Funniest Show on TV" by TV Guide readers. Canada’s favourite comedy is now shown in over 26 countries including the US. The final episode of the series was “the highest (rated) on record for a Canadian scripted series since it began keeping track in 1994” Brent’s follow-up series HICCUPS ran for two seasons. In 2013 Brent was honoured with a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his contributions to community and country. That same year Brent’s first feature film entitled NO CLUE and directed by Carl Bessai was released.

Letter from Wingfield Farm

The show that started the Wingfield series back in 1985! When a captain of industry trades his pin-stripe suit for overalls and retreats to a hundred acre farm, the residents of Persephone Township raise their eyebrows. Weekend farmers are a common enough sight, but this man seems to think he can make a living with a broken down racehorse and a single furrow plough.

Letter From Wingfield Farm is the story of one man’s attempt to embrace a less complicated world. In a series of letters to the editor of the Larkspur weekly newspaper, Walt Wingfield talks about the people and events of his first year as a man of the soil.

Michael Gabriel is a critically acclaimed singer-songwriter with a riveting concert series emphasizing community building. In ’Strings Attached,’ his emotionally fluid storytelling compositions are surrounded with a driving string section, piano and enhanced by local choirs and musicians to create “...a breathtaking coming together of sound.” Marielle Julian - Velvet Rope Magazine.

As with every concert - Michael performs with his 3-part string section and pianist while sharing the stage with talent from the community.  For this production, choral arrangements will be sung by the Eastview Secondary School choir and the Simcoe Singers.  A group of string players from Huronia Arts Academy will also join Michael and his core ensemble.  10% of every ticket will be donated to Youth Haven.

Leopold Minute, a clockmaker by profession, has been repairing, adjusting and reconditioning watches, clocks and alarm clocks for his customers for several years.  But for a few seconds Leopold is hypnotized and rocked to sleep by the ticking sounds in his shop and becomes lost in a daydream.  He is then suddenly filled with a sweet insanity that he expresses through dance, juggling and acrobatics.  Share these moments of bewildering entertainment!

The Comic Strippers

The Comic Strippers are a fictitious male stripper troupe, played  by a cast of some of Canada’s best improvisational comedians. These guys try to be sexy… it just comes out funny. Constantly grooving and gyrating, in between scenes they banter with the crowd and perform their sexylarious twist on improv sketches. They sing, they “dance;” these guys are oiled up and ready to make you laugh. Women often say the most attractive thing about a man is his sense of humour - so ladies, these stripped-down comedians are sure to make your head explode. And not to worry, gentlemen, this is definitely a parody of male strippers. Some of the performers have what’s called 'Comedy Bodies' - they will make you look fabulous by comparison!

 
Semi-undressed and completely unscripted, The Comic Strippers take off their shirts and take on your suggestions to create a whole new genre of comedy.

Greg Frewin is currently ranked as “The International Grand Champion of Magic,” having won every major award offered within the magic community. He has placed first in numerous magic competitions including the International Brotherhood of Magicians, the Society of American Magicians, the Canadian Association of Magicians and the Federation Internationale Society of Magique—widely regarded as the Olympics of magic. His winning streak recently culminated with his 2009 win of the “Magician of the Year” award at the World Magic awards, effectively ranking him as the world’s top illusionist.
 
In his fifteen-year professional career Frewin has performed live all over the world, from Japan to Monte Carlo, cruise ships on the high seas to the Vegas Strip. He currently performs sold out shows at one of the top Niagara Falls, Ontario attractions; the Greg Frewin Theatre. Frewin has also appeared on over 35 television programs including NBC’s “World’s Greatest Magic,” ABC’s “Champions of Magic” and his own three-part CBC special “Magic Man: Home for the Holidays.”

About Georgian Theatre

The Georgian Theatre eatures a proscenium stage, fly gallery, sound, lighting, and performers dressing rooms with showers. Seating for 412 on the main level with 3 pods which can be used to increase the seating capacity to 680. The fully equipped theatre is also available for non-theatrical activity including conferences and seminars.

Georgian College Barrie Campus - Building C,  1 Georgian Drive. Adjacent to Highway #400 at Duckworth Street

Driving Directions:
Exit Hwy 400 at Duckworth Street; take Duckworth Street to Bell Farm Road; drive east along Bell Farm Road into the Georgian College Campus.
