Conversation with a Rattlesnake

Presented by Theo Fleury & Kim Barthel

In partnership with The New Path Foundation

May 1, 2014 starting at 9:00am

Join Theo Fleury, former NHL Hockey wonder and author of the best-selling book Playing with Fire and Kim Barthel, renowned therapist and teacher, for a day of cutting edge information, personal reflection, inspiration, and healing.

The day begins with Theo sharing his profound and life-changing personal account of his journey through trauma and addiction, towards healing. Listening to his story inspires survivors, victors and therapists alike to understand trauma and renewal from the inside out.

Kim then takes the stage and explains in everyday language how our brains work: and that there are always reasons for our behaviour. Kim provides an in-depth understanding of how early childhood attachment, abuse and addiction arise and shape the brain. This understanding is a game changer because it dramatically eliminates shame, and allows for compassion where maybe there was little before.

Understanding the most up-to-date science about the forces shaping our brains is critical information for anyone who wants to help people: people trying to heal themselves, friends of those in pain, parents, teachers, therapists, coaches...

The highlight of the day is when Kim and Theo pull this "healing" theory together with Theo’s colourful life’s journey. They have an honest conversation for all to witness. But not small talk- Kim asks Theo intimate and revealing questions that are carefully and therapeutically spoken. This gives both Theo and the audience an opportunity for honest and illuminating self-awareness. Theo’s answers and Kim’s process of therapeutic attunement will enlighten the audience at diverse levels of interest.

The audience will have the opportunity at the end of the day to participate in conversation directly with Theo and Kim, both through questions/answers while on stage, and then afterwards in the lobby.
