Spur Innovation

The City prides itself as a forward-thinking organization leading the charge in municipal services. In the same vein, we strongly support our businesses in harnessing the power of innovation in their own organizations.

There’s always something new happening in Barrie’s business community, bringing buzz with increased networking and conversations taking place. Invest Barrie, in collaboration with our community partners, runs various thought-provoking programs and workshops to encourage local businesses to think differently about their commercial landscape. By thinking differently, our businesses will be able to develop creative solutions that will allow them to better compete on both a national and global scale.  With the help of our partners, our aim is that Barrie companies will be leaders in their respective industries, and sought after for their services. The City is focused on supporting the growth of an ecosystem that can foster a startup community and culture of entrepreneurship in Barrie. While the foundational building of a startup community often comes from grassroots initiatives, The City's Invest Barrie portfolio aims to play an important leadership role by:

  1. Enabling and creating connections between players in the ecosystem;
  2. Promote local successes of Barrie and raise the profile of the ecosystem;
  3. Support the development and expansion of programming, infrastructure and partnerships that supports entrepreneurship.

Lego Robotics Program

Invest Barrie is able to bring innovative and thought-provoking issues to different types of audiences. In October 2015, Invest Barrie and the Barrie Public Library presented the Lego Robotics program. The program is designed to help kids ages 6-14 gain experience in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programs by using a fun interactive approach to problem solving using LEGO building bricks.
