Parking Strategy

In 2010, a Parking Services & Rate Review Team was formed to recommend parking strategies, policies, procedures and rates within Barrie to ensure the viability of the downtown commercial activity, appropriately support both intensification and growth, while also supporting the parking needs of the key stakeholder groups, all in a financially sustainable fashion over the next 20 years.

The Parking Strategy and Rate Review Report provides background information and the assumptions made during the process of developing the proposed recommendations for paid parking. The report details the proposed parking principles, methodology for the development of the parking model and long range financial planning assessments.

Genivar, the City’s transportation consultant for the growth studies work, conducted a parking study to update the previous 2005 Waterfront Parking Study and the 2007 Downtown Parking Study to reflect current conditions and future demands generated by intensification and higher density development within the city.  Their recommendations are summarized in the Draft Final Parking Study.
