Fleet Services

The City of Barrie Fleet Services Branch manages the City’s fleet of over 700 corporate vehicles and pieces of equipment.  The branch consists of professional Managers and Technicians who are responsible for the supply of vehicles, vehicle maintenance and repairs.  We also provide driver training and safety oversight.

Responsibilities

Since the city’s fleet is so diverse, the services provided by Fleet Services are just as varied.  The different types of fleet equipment maintained includes light/medium/heavy vehicles, turf maintenance equipment, snow control equipment, hand held motorized tools as well as mechanical support for the Barrie Fire Department.

Services include preventative maintenance programs, inspections, seasonal overhauls and lubrications.  As well, the fabrication shop can provide general welding, machining and metal fabrication.  Our personnel technical competencies must vary to accommodate the wide range of equipment.  They are provided up to date training and are available during all hours of operation.

Location

Fleet Services operates out of R.A Archer Operations Centre located at 165 Ferndale Drive North.  This is where both the repair garage as well as the Fleet Administration Office is located.

Greening Barrie’s Fleet

Fleet's initiative took place in 2007 in an effort for The City of Barrie to reduce its overall environmental impacts.  Four hybrid powered vehicles were purchased and are currently being used by both the Municipal Law Enforcement Section of the City Clerk’s Office as well as the Fire Prevention Branch of the Barrie Fire and Emergency Services Department.  A fifth hybrid vehicle will be purchased in the near future as well as an implementation of an anti-idling program for the entire Fleet.
