Garbage Collection
The weekly curbside garbage allowance per residential dwelling is limited to one bag or can per week (20kg or 45lbs is the maximum weight per bag or can). Additional bags or cans will be collected if one tag is purchased and attached to the additional bag or cans. Tags are to be placed around the neck of the garbage bag or on the top of the garbage inside the can, not on the can itself.

INCREASE IN GARBAGE TAG PRICES
In an effort to encourage maximum participation in the recycling and green bin programs, the price of garbage bag tags for waste over the weekly limit will increase from $2.00 per tag to $3.00 per tag effective May 1, 2012.
The current pink $2.00 City of Barrie tags will be honoured at the curb until October 1, 2012, following which additional bags or cans must have a new $3.00 tag affixed in order to be eligible for collection.
Residents may receive credit for the total face value of $2.00 tags returned to approved city facilities towards the purchase of new $3.00 tags from October 1, 2012 until December 31, 2012. Information on approved city facilities will be available at a later date.
To learn more about how you can manage your waste differently while helping to divert household organic waste and recyclables from the landfill visit the recycling and organics sections of our website.

Where to Purchase Garbage Tags
Placing Sharp Items in Your Curbside Garbage
When placing sharp items (i.e. broken glass, fluorescent tubing and nails) in the garbage, please ensure that they are wrapped in a protective material, such as newsprint, before disposing of the items into the garbage so they do not present a safety hazard to the collectors. As a courtesy to the garbage collectors, please label all garbage units that may contain a potential safety hazard.
