Victoria Day Holiday Schedule for
Garbage, Recycling, Organics and Yard Waste Collection
There will be no organics, garbage, recycling, and yard waste collection on Victoria Day, Monday, May 21, 2012 in the City of Barrie.
Collection during the week of this holiday will occur ONE day later for the remainder of the week as follows:

The Landfill Site is closed regularly every Sunday and Monday.
Barrie residents are reminded to have their materials at curbside by 7:00 a.m. on their collection day.

Recycling
- Please ensure that your recycling boxes are placed curbside before 7:00 a.m. on your collection day. Do not put your recycling boxes out before your collection day. Recycling boxes must be removed the same day after collection has occurred.
- When there is a statutory holiday, collection will occur one day later for the remainder of the week. If there are changes to the collection schedule, notice of the changes will be posted one week prior to the holiday.
- Please separate your recyclables into two blue boxes (paper materials into one box, and container recyclables into the second box); OR use a grey box for paper recyclables, and blue box for container recyclables.

Acceptable Materials
Container Products – Blue Box Items
- Spiral Cardboard Cans
Spiral cardboard cans are round with spiral grooves on the side and metal bottoms. Examples include:
- Refrigerated dough
- Frozen juices
- Snacks (chips, nuts, etc.)
- Powdered drink mixes
- Baby formulas
- Shortening
- Powdered cleansers
Please place these cans in your 'containers' box. The plastic strip around frozen juice cans is not acceptable but please include the metal portions.
- Plastic Container #1-7
- Includes all plastic bottles, jugs, tubs and lids and styrene trays (meat trays).
- Clean Packing Styrofoam is acceptable providing it fits into a standard size curbside recycling box (no Styrofoam peanuts).
- No plastic bags or wrap, pesticide or motor oil containers, or toys.
- Food and Beverage Cans
- Rinse, push lids down inside
- No need to remove labels
- No paint or aerosol cans
- Glass Bottles and Jars
- Rinse
- No need to remove labels
- No drinking glasses, broken glass, dishes, lights bulbs, window panes, mirrors, etc.
- Aluminum Trays, Pie Plates and Foil
- Rinse
- Clean aluminum foil only.
- Tetra Pak Drinking Boxes and Milk and Juice Cartons
Paper Products - Grey Box Items
- All Household Paper
- Includes: newspapers, glossy flyers, T.V. guides, advertisements, all colours of photocopy paper, hardcover books (without the covers), cash register receipts, envelopes, writing paper, gift-wrap and greeting cards and paper bags (as long as they are not foil or plastic coated)
- Place directly in blue box
- No kitty litter, paper or waxed cups or wooden orange crates.
- Telephone Books & Catalogues
- Includes directories and magazines
- Boxboard and Egg Cartons
- Includes: any flat brown or greyish food boxes (crackers, cereal, cookies, etc.) detergent boxes, shoe boxes, cigarette packages, backs of note pads, file folders, toilet paper rolls, paper towel rolls, backs of blister packs (remove plastic)
- Remove food liner bags, flatten and place inside another box
- Cardboard
- Shipping boxes and empty pizza boxes
- Flatten and bundle no larger than 75 cm x 75 cm 20 cm (30" x 30" x 8") place in or beside the recycling box
- No waxed cardboard
- Limit one bundle per week for each business establishment (no limit for residents)
Curbside Placement
To prevent debris from blowing out of your paper recycling box please place the recycling box with your containers on top of it. Place lighter items such as shredded paper inside boxboard items or at the bottom of your box to prevent them from blowing out. Blue and grey recycling boxes are for recyclables only! Leaf and yard waste placed in recycling boxes will not be collected.
Blue and Grey Box Delivery and Pick-up Locations
To have a blue or grey box delivered (limit two boxes per residence) please call (705) 739-4219 Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Barrie residents only.
Blue and Grey Boxes are available for pick up at the Environmental Centre from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. They are also available Saturdays at the Household Special Waste Depot, located at the Environmental Centre. Each resident should use two blue boxes or one grey box and one blue box to separate materials properly.
When picking up recycling containers at the Environmental Centre the following rules apply:
Barrie Residents
- Photo identification proving Barrie residency must be provided to office staff prior to issuance of boxes
- A maximum of four boxes given per visit to landfill
- Any combination of blue and grey
- Sign-out form to be completed
Barrie Businesses
- A maximum of four blue and one grey permitted at the curb
- A private hauler must be used for any surplus over what is allowed at the curb
- Sign-out form to be completed

PLEASE NOTE:
- Damaged bins are to be dropped off in the main office of the Administration Building at the Environmental Centre so they can be sent back to the manufacturer for recycling (bins will not be replaced because they are 'dirty').
- COUNTY OF SIMCOE RESIDENTS should contact the County of Simcoe office (705) 726-9300 for recycling bin requests.
