Easter Holiday Collection Schedule

There will be no garbage, organics and recycling collection on Good Friday, March 29, 2013 in the City of Barrie. Collection for this day will occur on Saturday, March 30, 2013. The Landfill Site will be closed on Good Friday and is closed every Sunday and Monday.

Collection will occur as usual on Easter Monday, April 1st and will remain on the regular schedule throughout the week.

Leaf and yard waste will be collected every other week starting April 1st. Barrie residents are reminded to have their materials at curbside by 7:00 a.m.

Please ensure you find out what your regular scheduled collection day is and what week (Week A or Week B) your area is for the bi-weekly collection months (July, August, December). To determine collection areas please check the City of Barrie's Community Information and Waste Reduction Calendar.

Normal leaf and yard waste collection will occur on Remembrance Day, Easter Monday and Boxing Day.

If there are changes to the collection schedule, notice of the changes will be posted one week prior to the holiday.

Leaf & Yard Waste Packaging

  • Leaf and yard waste should be placed curbside by 7:00 a.m. for collection
  • Should be placed in a separate container from regular garbage
  • Please leave lids off containers and boxes open so the collectors can see their contents
  • Clippings from trees and shrubs should be tied securely in small bundles to permit easy handling
  • Bundles must be no larger than 1.8 metres in length and 0.3m (1ft) in diameter and weigh no more than 20 kgs (45lbs)
  • Tree limbs must be no larger than 10cm (4 inches) in diameter and no longer than 1.8m (6ft) and have a maximum height of 2.6 metres (8 ½ feet)

Landfill Yard Waste Disposal Fees

  • Residential leaf and yard waste can be dropped off at City of Barrie's Landfill Site at 272 Ferndale Drive North. Effective March 1, 2013, there is no charge for the first 100kg of each load. The remainder of the weight over 100kg is $58.00/tonne.
  • A $6.00 minimum charge applies to commercial yard waste for loads under 100kg. Effecitve March 1, 2013, loads 100kg and over are charged $58.00/tonne for total weight of load. 
  • If the materials are packaged in plastic bags, the bags must be removed.
  • Branches in excess of 4” in diameter will be charged the regular user rate for waste.
  • Sod is accepted at the landfill site to be composted as long as the soil has been removed. Topsoil or 'clean fill' is not accepted at the landfill site.
