Downtown Parking

There are more than 2000 public parking spaces within walking distance to some of the best restaurants, shopping experiences, culture, and entertainment in beautiful downtown Barrie.

December FREE on-street 2-hour Parking

Shop downtown this holiday season and take advantage of FREE on-street metered parking for the first 2 hours throughout the month of December (the hourly rate applies to the third and subsequent hours). By-law enforcement officers will make the appropriate notation of vehicle and time, and monitor accordingly.   • $1.25 per hour on-street
    Throughout December 2014, the first 2 hours are free. The hourly rate would apply to the third and subsequent hours. 
  • $1.00 per hour off-street with $5.50 daily max
  • $.25 minimum parking payment (1-hour minimum for credit cards)
  • Enforcement: 9am–5pm, Monday to Friday *
    Free parking on evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays

    * Exceptions: The Spirit Catcher Lot, North Marina Lot, and Lakeshore Lot are enforced 24/7 as per the above rates, excluding statutory holidays. Downtown Parking Map

Collier Street Parkade

This parkade is a fully accessible, brightly lit, 7-level parking facility with over 300 public parking spaces is located on Collier Street between Clapperton St. and Owen St. The parkade provides convenient access to both Collier St. and Dunlop St. and is within walking distance to the Mady Centre for the Performing Arts. Rates:

  • $1.25 per hour
  • $0.25 minimum parking payment (1-hour minimum for credit cards)
  • Enforcement: 7:30am–11pm, Monday to Sunday
  • Free parking from 11pm–7:30am Monday to Sunday and on statutory holidays
  • Blue Monthly Parking Permit: $85

Monthly Permit Rates

Yellow: $60.00 plus applicable taxes
Green: $75.00 plus applicable taxes
Blue: $85.00 plus applicable taxes

The downtown parking map details parking areas where monthly passes are permitted. Monthly Parking Permits for the Collier Street Parkade (Blue permits) will be honoured in lots requiring Green or Yellow permits, and Green permits will be honoured in lots requiring Yellow permits. The issuance of a permit does not ensure space is available in the intended lot.

Parking Tips

  • For quick trips or errands utilize our 2-hour on-street parking spots at $1.25 per hour.
  • For day trips or extended appointments, utilize one of our many convenient lots located throughout the downtown area at $1.00 per hour to a maximum rate of $5.50.
  • Parking control devices will only accept (25C, $1.00 & $2.00 coins) quarters, loonies and toonies, with a quarter buying 15 minutes on-street and 20 minutes off-street (except for Collier Street Parkade).

What payment options are available when I park downtown?  
Payment may be made by coin at all on-street and off-street locations with credit card payments available at various locations. The City of Barrie is in the process of updating “pay & display” machines to make credit card payment more widely available. Monthly permits are also available for our off-street parking lots. Monthly permits are available for sale (see above for locations).
Where are the locations of "pay & display" machines that accept credit cards?  
The City of Barrie is in the process of updating “pay & display” machines to make credit card payment more widely available. Credit card payment option is currently available at the following locations:
 
  • Ross St. – 2 machines (2 hour maximum stay)
  • Collier St. – 6 machines (2 hour maximum stay) between Clapperton & Owen St.
  • Collier St. Parkade – 16 machines (long term parking - $1.25 per hour)
  • Lakeshore Mews – 2 machines (long term parking – $1.25 per hour) behind Dunlop St. stores bottom of Mulcaster St.
  • Heritage Park Lots – 2 machines (long term parking – $1.25 per hour)
  • Spirit Catcher Parking Lot – 1 machine (long term parking – $1.25 per hour)
  • Library Parking Lot – 1 machine (long term parking – $1.25 per hour)
  • City Hall Parking Lot – 1 machine (5 hour maximum stay)
How much does it cost to park downtown?  
The hourly rate to park on the street is $1.25 per hour and $1.00 per hour with a $5.50 daily maximum to park within a municipal parking lot. The cost of a monthly parking permit is $60, $75 or $85 depending on the lot. Please refer to the Downtown Parking Map for additional information regarding monthly permit parking.
Which parking lots are 24 hours paid operations?  
As of July 2, 2014 the Spirit Catcher Lot, North Marina Lot (Gravel Surface), and Lakeshore Lot (Old Lakeshore Drive) are 24-hour, 7-days-a-week paid parking. Please refer to the Downtown Parking Map for further information (the 24/7 lots are marked with an asterisk).
Was downtown parking free in December 2013?  
FREE parking was available in December 2013 in the Lakeshore Mews lot
(west of Mulcaster Street and north of Simcoe Street,) the Bayfield Street West Lot (northwest of Bayfield Street and Simcoe Street), and the Simcoe Street East Lot (east side of Bayfield Street and north of Simcoe Street and south of Chase McEachern Way).
Am I permitted to park for free if I have an Accessible Parking Permit or Disabled Person Parking Permit?  
Individuals displaying a valid Accessible Parking Permit or Disabled Person Parking Permit are permitted to park for free in all municipal paid parking locations but are required too abide by any time limits that may apply to that location.
Am I permitted to park for free if I have an Ontario veteran license plate?  
Vehicles which have an Ontario veteran license plate are permitted to park for free in all municipal paid parking locations but are required to abide by any time limits which may apply to that location.
