Youth Safety & Support Resources

If you or someone you know needs to talk to someone or requires support dealing with an issue, there are many organizations that are available and willing to help. Does one of these phrases apply to you or someone you know? Helpful resources are listed below.

"I need to talk to someone"
Kids Help Phone  Provides free 24/7 phone and web counselling that is non-judgemental, anonymous and confidential.
Youth Haven Barrie  Simcoe County’s only youth shelter also provides counseling services (residence at Youth Haven is not required).
YMCA Youth Counseling & Support Services  Provides services to youth seeking support in returning to school, in finding work, in dealing with addictions, in managing antisocial behaviours and, generally, in becoming contributing members of their community. 
"I am being abused."
Youth Haven Barrie  Simcoe County’s only youth shelter. Provides homeless and abused youth between the ages of 16 and 21 with the love, support and life skills.
Huronia Transition Homes Offers support for women 16 years of age and older who have experienced sexual abuse as children and/or as adults.
Women & Children’s Shelter of Barrie Provides shelter and support services to abused women and their children.
Simcoe County Children's Aid Society  Works towards the protection of children by investigating, assisting and guiding children and families.
Canadian Red Cross Violence, Bullying and Abuse Prevention Provides many services in communities across Canada. They also have resources on the prevention of violence, bullying and abuse.
Ontario Coalition of Rape Crisis Centres Resources for Teens The OCRCC is an equity-seeking network of women from autonomous rape crisis/sexual assault centres committed to leading social transformation that prevents and eliminates sexual violence.  
Canadian Centre for Child Protection Charitable organization dedicated to the personal safety of all children. This website is a Canada-wide tipline for reporting the online sexual exploitation of children.
 
"I am being bullied."
Needhelpnow.ca Provides information to youth who have been impacted by a sexual picture/video being shared by peers. The goal of the site is to provide teens with practical steps they can take to regain control over the situation.
Canadian Red Cross  Provides many services in communities across Canada. They also have resources on the prevention of violence, bullying and abuse.
Ontario Provincial Police  Site includes information on a number of topics including bullying, cyber-bully and internet safety.
BullyingCanada Site where youth are able to speak out about bullying and victimization.
 
"I'm homeless."
Youth Haven Barrie  Simcoe County’s only youth shelter. Provides homeless and abused youth between the ages of 16 and 21 with the love, support and life skills.
Barrie Food Bank  The Barrie Food Bank provides temporary food relief to individuals and families of our community who are in need, and to serves as a resource to guide them along the road to self sufficiency.
David Busby Street Centre Focuses on reducing the impact of poverty, homelessness, insufficient employment, addiction and mental health issues through outreach and services to participants in the Simcoe County area.
Barrie Out of the Cold  Provides safe, respectful and welcoming overnight accommodation and meals to the homeless from November to April.
Salvation Army Barrie Bayside Mission Centre  Located in the downtown core, the centre offers an on-site Thrift Store, Soup Kitchen and Men's Shelter along with many other community and family services. 
 
"I am/was in trouble with the law."
Elizabeth Fry Society of Simcoe County  Works with and on behalf of those who are involved with the Criminal Justice System, in particular those in conflict with the law, those perceived to be in conflict with the law, and those at risk of becoming in conflict with the law.
