Project

Ferndale Drive North Reconstruction

(Dunlop Street to Edgehill Drive)

Background

Ferndale Drive North is approaching the traffic capacity for a 2-lane arterial road and is in need of improvements to the poor pavement structure. The widening and reconstruction of Ferndale Drive North between Dunlop Street and Edgehill Drive was identified as being required in a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment in 2003 for Ferndale Drive (Edgehill Drive to Ardagh Road). The selected preferred alternative identified improvements of this section of road which included widening the road to four lanes, the installation of sidewalks, and the installation of bike lanes.

In an on-going effort to achieve the recommended development of Ferndale Drive, the section from Dunlop Street to Edgehill Drive will be widened to 4 lanes including the placement of curb and gutter, bike lanes, storm sewer, watermain, and sidewalks on both sides of the road. The existing street lighting will also be upgraded to provide adequate lighting for the proposed widened road.

The Corporation of the City of Barrie has contracted with Mar-King Construction Company Ltd. for the various improvements on Ferndale Drive North between Dunlop Street and Edgehill Drive.
