Johnson Street Improvements
The contract was awarded to Arnott Construction Ltd. The overall budget is $1.66M including utility relocations, design and construction. The project is scheduled to run from September to December, 2017.
This project includes road reconstruction of Johnson Street from Shanty Bay Road to Lake Simcoe including installation of large diameter storm sewer and box culvert, replacement of existing storm outlet, new watermain and replacement of sanitary forcemain including restoration of the project area.
Summary of overall objective of the project:
- 100 mm diameter forcemain
- 300 mm diameter storm sewer
- 1500 diameter storm sewer
- Concrete box culverts
- 150 mm diameter PVC watermain
- Street lights
- Road reconstruction
- Restoration including topsoil and sod Primary feature
There will be two minor power outages affecting the public washrooms and the Barrie Yacht Club: one in August, one in September.
Sanitary sewer, hydro, telephone, Cable TV, and Gas services should not be affected by the construction, barring any unforeseen circumstances.
Water service will be interrupted for a short time to switch your service over to the new watermain. Notice of the timing of any water interruptions will be provided to you in advance of such occurrences.
Curbside Collection: On the normal curbside collection day, residents are asked to place all garbage, organics, recyclables and yard waste materials at the front of your property as usual. The construction contractor will remove these items and take them to outside of the construction zone, for pickup by the City’s waste pickup contractor. Your garbage cans, organics bin and recycling boxes will be returned to your property later that day. Please mark your address on all of your containers. It is important that you take your refuse and recyclable items to the front of your property by 7am, otherwise these items might not be picked up.
Access to Properties
All reasonable efforts will be made to maintain vehicle access to driveways. However, there may be some temporary interruptions to access during construction. Access will be restored as quickly as possible. The Contractor will provide prior notice of any imminent access restrictions to the businesses and residents. Pedestrian access to all homes and businesses will be maintained during construction.
The contractor is required to conduct his work in a safe manner, including fencing of deep excavations, etc. We ask that you take extra caution during the construction period to ensure everyone’s safety
