The City of Barrie proudly presents Barrie Winterfest, one of the Top 100 Festivals & Events in Ontario. Grab your mittens and celebrate winter with us on February 1st & 2nd, 2020!

Partnership Opportunities Available for Winterfest 2020!

As an event partner, you can build brand recognition through our promotion campaign, including radio and print advertising, social media, website, and printed materials. Engage an audience of over 20,000 through on-site recognition and brand activation opportunities. Our partners are valued and contribute directly towards providing exciting, free programming for the community. Sponsorship opportunities start at $1000 and a limited number of brand activation spaces are available starting at $500 for a 10'x10' space. Battle of the Chainsaws

Saturday, 1pm @ Meridian Place

Professional ice carvers from the IceCulture team go head-to-head in the ultimate ice carving battle.

Ice Sculptures

Saturday 10am–10pm, Sunday 10am–4pm

Marvel at artistic masterpieces sculpted out of three hundred pound blocks of ice by the professional carvers from IceCulture. This year's theme is a celebration of stories.  Check out our sculptures as they make books come alive!

Lumberjack Shows

Saturday & Sunday: 12pm, 1:30pm, & 3pm

Watch expert lumberjacks demonstrate their incredible skills - speed sawing, axe throwing, and chainsaw carving - at this perennial Winterfest favourite.

Maple Taffy

Saturday 10am–5pm, Sunday 10am–4pm

Try a sample of this traditional French-Canadian treat! Available while quantities last.​

Snow Sculptures

Winterfest features giant sculptures created out of snow by a professional carver. This year's theme is a celebration​ of stories.  Check out our sculptures as they make books come alive!

Speaking of Wildlife

Shows at 12:30pm and 2pm daily

Get up close and learn about some of Canada's most popular furry friends! Stop by throughout the day or join them at 12:30pm and 2:00pm for special insights into the life of the wild.

Historic Walking Tour with Barrie's Town Crier
Saturday @ 1:20pm & Sunday @ 1pm
Meet Barrie's Town Crier at the Meridian Place Stage for a 1 hour guided walking tour highlighting the city's history. He will entertain you with true stories of Barrie's Victorian past!
Winter Kites

Saturday & Sunday, 11am to 3pm (wind permitting)

The Toronto Kite Fliers will showcase kites of all sizes, shapes, and colours in a special winter aerial display.

Mariposa Skating Showcase & Learn to Skate

City Hall Outdoor Rink, 70 Collier Street
Saturday & Sunday, 12:15pm-1:30pm

Mariposa School of Skating presents a demonstration of their Beginner to International competitors. Bring your skates and join them on the rink after the show for a Learn to Skate session led by Mariposa’s Professional Coaches and Program Assistants. Mariposa runs Skate Canada’s Canskate program, which is the only nationally recognized learn to skate program in Canada and it teaches the fundamentals of skating. Mariposa’s coaching staff are among the best in the world and have produced Provincial, National, World, and Olympic Champions in figure skating as well as professional hockey players. Come learn to skate with the best!

The Barrie Lion's Club presents the 27th annual Winterfest pancake breakfast - a great start to your day and a Winterfest tradition! $7 for adults, $3 for children under 11, and preschoolers are free. Yummy!

Grey & Simcoe Foresters Regimental Museum

36 Mulcaster Street
Saturday 10am–4pm, Sunday 12pm–3pm

Bring the whole family, warm-up with a hot chocolate, and check out the exhibits in Barrie's only downtown museum. Listen to Sgt. Murray, dressed in full 1880s period uniform, as he relates the history of Barrie's own Militiamen and provides insight into Barrie's military heritage.

Books come Alive, with fun music to make you move, an interactive story and animal antics that will keep you all laughing and dancing.

Geckos, lizards, snakes, and hedgehogs are live at the library! Come learn about the wild creatures of Africa with Zootek.

Hot Cocoa Trail Mug Rug

A quick little mug rug you can sew and bring along on the Hot Cocoa Trail at select downtown merchants and restaurants during the month of February.

Wild Africa Escape Room  (TBA) 

Each puzzle will take you to a country or region of Africa - the plains of the Serengeti, the jungles of Madagascar or the heat of the desert! This family-focused puzzle is challenging enough for adults but still fun for kids of all ages. Take 20 minutes to work together with your family and friends or have fun with the group and plan your escape together! 

Space is limited, drop-in event, first come first served. Escape rooms are 20 minutes in duration with 10 participants per session. Sign-up sheet at the door.

Get an early start to Winterfest with a great variety of produce, artistry, and baking at Barrie's Farmers' Market inside the City Hall Rotunda. Be sure to bring along your skates to enjoy a winter skate on the outdoor rink at City Hall!

Polar Bear Dip (Sunday only)

Are you brave enough to take a frosty dip in Kempenfelt Bay? Come ready to take the plunge! No pre-registration required or fee to participate; however, you are welcome to fundraise for your charity of choice. Spectators welcome - a sight not to be missed!

February Blues (Jan. 30-Feb. 2)

Shake off cabin fever at the 21st annual February Blues Festival. Visit many great restaurants, bars, bistros, libraries and concert venues in Barrie and area to enjoy Blues and Jazz music performed by some of Canada's most brilliant artists.

Downtown Barrie's February #HotCocoaTrail 

Explore downtown cafes and eateries, which will be crafting unique hot chocolate creations for Winterfest weekend and every other Saturday and Sunday in February! Stop in for a warm-up or try them all - with each purchase, you'll receive a ballot to be entered into a draw. Locations to be announced soon!

Getting Around - Shuttle & Downtown Parking

Winterfest Park 'n Ride Shuttle

Sunday 9:30am to 4:00pm

Park at the Bayfield Mall, easily accessed off of Highway 400, and take a warm and comfortable FREE ride to Barrie Winterfest!  The shuttle will pick-up on Coulter Street behind the Bayfield Mall at Barrie Transit stop #203, making a stop at the Barrie Native Friendship Centre on Bayfield Street (stop # & #) to hop on or off, and will drop-off at the Downtown Transit Terminal along Maple Avenue where you can cross the street to Heritage Park and enjoy all of the festivities. The 2019 Winterfest Shuttle Map & Schedule is available under Downloads. 


If you're driving to the event, there's plenty of downtown and waterfront parking available within close walking distance, including the Collier Street Parkade. It is a fully accessible, 7-level parking facility with over 300 parking spots located on Collier Street between Owen and Clapperton Streets.

Road Closures

When making your way around downtown, Simcoe Street will be closed from Maple Avenue to Dunlop Street from 6:00am February 1st to 6:00pm February 2nd.
