The Opportunity:

The Ground Water Supply Section is responsible for the operation of the City’s Water Distribution and Supply Sub-system, which includes the operation of ground water wells, booster pumping stations, below ground and above ground reservoirs. The successful applicant to this position will assist the Ground Water Supply Team with performing the following tasks:

  1. Assist with the operation of drinking water treatment and drinking water distribution system, including chlorination, iron sequestering and portability monitoring equipment and facilities including wells, reservoirs and booster pumping stations. 
  2. Assist with the operation of drinking water distribution system including valves, hydrants and flushing equipment.
  3. Undertakes routine field testing including, but not limited to, chlorine and turbidity testing.
  4. Assist with the inspection, maintenance repairs and cleaning of water facilities.
  5. Obtains samples for microbiological and chemical analysis.
  6. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Must be a FULL TIME student returning to studies upon completion of co-op work term
  • Applicants must have completed at least one year of related post-secondary education at a recognized college or university
  • Enrolled in a recognized co-op program
  • Must hold valid Drinking Water System Operator-in-Training certificates from the MECP in Water Treatment and Water Distribution and Supply
  • Ability to work in a high paced and dynamic environment
  • Dependable, reliable and work well with little supervision
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Computer skills – MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Conditions of Employment:

  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check prior to start date (valid within last 6 months from anticipated start date)​
  • Valid Ontario Class G Driver's License in good standing
Other Important Information:

Work Term: May 3, 2021 – December 31, 2021 (8 Month Term)

Wage: $18.91 per hour

Hours per Week: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 4:00pm
