The Opportunity:
​The Infrastructure Department is comprised of five Branches, including three Design and Construction Branches, the Wastewater Operations Branch, and the Water Operations Branch. Key responsibilities include the operation and maintenance of the City’s environmental infrastructure and systems including water supply, treatment, and distribution; wastewater collection and treatment; and the design and construction of the City's infrastructure including treatment plants, pump stations, roads, sewers, watermains, sidewalks, stormwater management ponds, water towers and reservoirs, etc.

Under the general guidance and direction of the Project Controls Manager, the Project Controls Coordinator is responsible for supporting initiatives to increase cost and schedule certainty for capital projects and improving communications on projects for the City of Barrie's Infrastructure Department.  This position supports the planning and delivery of capital projects for the City's infrastructure with an integral role in working with the management team to develop, implement and maintain tools for program and project controls to ensure projects are delivered on schedule, and within budget in accordance with quality commitments. The Project Controls Coordinator will also facilitate the development of communications for design and construction projects, working with the management team.

Education (degree/diploma/certifications) 
  • Three (3) year College Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology
  • Training in project management or project communications
  • Five (5) years of experience performing duties related to the above mentioned major responsibilities
  • Demonstrated experience in the following: Project Management, Project Planning and Scheduling, and Project Communications
  • General knowledge of the following legislation, regulations, or requirements: Construction Act; Environmental Assessment Act; Fisheries Act; Municipal Act; Occupational Health and Safety Act; Ontario Building Code; Ontario Safe Drinking Water Act; Ontario Clean Water Act; Ontario Water Resources Act; Public Service Works on Highways Act; and Lake Simcoe Protection Act.
  • Working knowledge of the following principles and standards: Project Management, Project Control, Project Communications; and Engineering design and construction standards and principles related to municipal infrastructure
  • Demonstrated Ability to:
    • ​conduct research, prepare reports, and prepare presentations
    • prepare communications, staff reports, bulletins
    • develop, promote, and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
    • exercise discretion and judgment when handling confidential, sensitive, or controversial information

Conditions of Employment
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License in good standing
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
Other Important Information:

​Location: City Hall, 70 Collier Street, Barrie, Ontario

Hours: The normal hours of work are 35 hours per week in accordance with the Collective Agreement

Wage: This position is within the CUPE Local 2380 Bargaining Unit with the following pay level and 2020 pay range:
  • Pay Level: Level 8
  • Yearly Salary: $67,244.49 to $80,591.59 per year
  • Hourly Pay Rate: $36.94 to $44.28 per hour
Benefits: This position includes single health and dental benefits, prorated paid sick time based on the expected duration of employment, and pro-rated vacation time based on calendar year and in accordance with the Employment Standards Act.
