Deputations at Council

What is a deputation?

A deputation is made in opposition to a General Committee recommendation.

A request for a deputation to Council must be made in writing to the City Clerk on the Wednesday preceding the Council meeting at which the item will be discussed.

Deputations must be listed on the council agenda and will be heard by City Council at 7:00 p.m. A deputation not listed on the agenda is subject to a majority vote of Council to be heard. Individuals may speak for up to 10 minutes. The matter will be dealt with at the time Council deals with the Committee Report unless the order of the agenda is altered by a majority vote.

Further details and the deputation request form may be obtained by selecting the link to the right for the Guide to Communicating with Council.
