I, Jeff Lehman, Mayor of the City of Barrie hereby proclaim
October 18-24, 2021 asWaste Reduction Week

WHEREAS; The generation of solid waste and the needless waste of water and energy resources are recognized as global environmental problems; and

WHEREAS; Municipal governments have an important role to play in promoting waste reduction, reuse, recycling, composting and other conservation measures; and

WHEREAS; Communities, businesses and organizations across Canada have committed to working together to raise awareness of these issues during Waste Reduction Week in Canada; and

WHEREAS; Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Business Performance and Environmental Sustainability has arranged for on-line activities to take place in cooperation with the Barrie Public Library.  Each day of Waste Reduction Week has an associated theme and is presented through the lens of its contribution to advancing a Circular Economy:

Monday, October 18th – Circular Economy & Kickoff
Tuesday, October 19th – Textiles
Wednesday, October 20st – Champions & Innovators
Thursday, October 21st – Plastics & Packaging
Friday, October 22nd - Food Waste
Saturday & Sunday, October 23rd & 24th - Sharing Economy and Swap, Share and Repair

THEREFORE,  I, Jeff Lehman, Mayor of the City of Barrie, do hereby proclaim the week of October 18 to October 24, 2021 as "Waste Reduction Week" in the City of Barrie and encourage residents to learn more about waste diversion and waste reduction.
