Proclamation

I, Jeff Lehman, Mayor of the City of Barrie hereby proclaim
December 3, 2021 asInternational Day of Persons with Disabilities
WHEREAS; The annual observance of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities was proclaimed in 1992 by the United Nations General Assembly; and
 
WHEREAS; We recognize the strides persons with disabilities have made in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life, and work to raise awareness of the struggles yet to be overcome. The annual observance of the Day is an opportunity for the City of Barrie to make a renewed commitment to the principles of dignity and justice for all, in support of the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities; and
 
WHEREAS; The City of Barrie Council adopts each year the City’s Accessibility Plan under the Ontarians with Disabilities Act and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act; and
 
WHEREAS; The City’s Accessibility Advisory Committee advises on the development of this plan, which works to support the UN's 2021 theme for International Day of Persons with Disabilities: Courageous Conversations for a more Equitable, Diverse, Inclusive and Accessible Future.
 
THEREFORE, I, Jeff Lehman, Mayor of the City of Barrie, do hereby proclaim December 3, 2021 as “International Day of Persons with Disabilities.”
