THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF BARRIE Mayor’s Office - "Committed to Service Excellence" I, Barry Ward, Deputy, Mayor of the City of Barrie hereby proclaimMay 17, 2022 asInternational Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and BiphobiaWHEREAS; The International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia is recognized annually on May 17th to draw attention to the 2SLGBTQI+ community and the fear and hatred that is often directed at its members; and WHEREAS; By all coming together on one global day, we will be so loud that people all over the world who cannot speak up will hear the sound of hope and solidarity. More is still needed to be done and more bridges to cross so our voices can all be heard before we have true equality and remove hate from our world; and WHEREAS; The International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia flag will be flown demonstrating that we embrace diversity and value the 2SLGBTQI+ community, and that homophobia, transphobia and biphobia are not welcome; and WHEREAS; The International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia is a day to continue our collective journey towards societies that ensure justice and protection for all, It is a day to speak out against the phobias affecting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, two-spirit, intersex communities and all people with diverse sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions or sex characteristics. In a fair and just world, no one shall be left behind. THEREFORE, I, Barry Ward, Deputy Mayor of the City of Barrie, do hereby proclaim May 17, 2022 to be “International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia.”
