WHEREAS; This marks the 9th annual Barrie Pride season in Barrie, and it’s purpose of advocacy, education and celebration for a safe and inclusive Barrie that encourages and supports Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Two-Spirit, Asexual, Intersex, Plus community members through services, activities and events; and
 
WHEREAS; The Progressive Pride flag is raised to honour 2SLGBTQAI plus intersectional community members. The Progress Pride flag was developed in 2018 by non-binary American artist and designer Daniel Quasar, xe/xyr. Based on the iconic rainbow flag from 1978, the redesign celebrates the diversity of the LGBTQ community and calls for a more inclusive society; and

 

WHEREAS; The International June Pride season is filled with events and activities that focus on advocacy, education, community development and celebration of creative expression organized by Barrie Pride. There are 2SLGBTQAI plus events and activities March to November annually. Barrie Pride is a volunteer founded and led, not for profit incorporation whose Board of Directors is made of Barrie 2SLGBTQAI plus community members.
 
THEREFORE, I, Jeff Lehman, Mayor of the City of Barrie, do hereby proclaim the month of June 2022 to be “Barrie Pride Month,” and encourage all citizens to take note of this time of community advocacy, get educated, get involved and let’s Celebrate Pride in Barrie together.
