PRESS RELEASECalling All Aspiring Performers
Wednesday, March 06, 2013

The City of Barrie is once again putting the call out to all performers who would like to be considered for this year’s street performer roster in the downtown.   The Department of Culture in partnership with the Downtown Barrie Business Association (BIA) will be holding auditions on Monday, March 18, 2013 from 5:00 – 9pm in City Hall’s Rotunda.   So whether you sing, play an instrument, dance or do magic tricks, be sure to submit your request for an audition.  It’s important to remember that only those with an appointment will be able to audition at this time.
In 2009, a permit process for street performers was developed to allow talented performers to share their abilities throughout downtown city streets and engage the public. Since then, pedestrians have been treated to a variety of talent as they enjoyed their travels throughout the downtown core.
Auditions can be booked through the Department of Culture by calling (705)739-4299 or by emailing
Performance auditions are to be between 5 – 7 minutes in length so please prepare your presentation accordingly. For those who are selected as one of this year’s performers, a reminder that you will be required to purchase a permit and commit to 6 – 8 hours per week of entertaining in the downtown over the summer as we continue our efforts in creating a vibrant, animated downtown! Members of the community are welcome to drop in, and enjoy the auditions of some of Barrie’s most talented individuals.
For more information on the street performer permit process please contact The Department of Culture at 739-4299.
