Building Barrie by Planning our Future

Notice of a Special Meeting of General Committee: City of Barrie New Official Plan

The City of Barrie is creating a new Official Plan. Our OP will be the overarching plan for Barrie and will set our community vision. It will go beyond planning for our growing community to become the primary tool that establishes the guiding principles for the future
we want.

Barrie is a special place. Barrie’s future affects us all. We want to continue building a strong sustainable community. We want people to make Barrie their home for their entire life. We want a strong prosperous economy — ensuring we attract and keep good paying jobs while adapting to changes in the global economy. To do this, our Official Plan needs to be created by working together with residents, City Council, developers, investors, community organizations, agencies and all other stakeholders throughout our community. To accomplish this, we will be creating many opportunities for public input over the next year.

A Special Meeting of General Committee (pursuant to Section 26(3)(b) of the Planning Act, R. S. O. 1990, as amended) will be held:
February 4, 2019 at 7:00 p.m.
City Hall Council Chamber
70 Collier Street, Barrie

Anyone may offer input at the Special Meeting of General Committee, and/or make comments (written or verbal) regarding the opportunities and policies that should be considered during the preparation of a new Official Plan. This input will guide the process to create our new OP over the next year. For more information about this Special Meeting and the process underway to prepare a new Official Plan please contact or register at to participate in building Barrie’s future today.

PLEASE NOTE: Comments and opinions submitted on these matters, including the originator’s name and address, will become part of the public record and may be viewed by the general public, published in a Planning Report and/or included in the General Committee agenda and minutes. General Committee agendas and minutes are published at

DATED at the City of Barrie this 13th day of December, 2018.
