Creative Economy Department
Invest Barrie is exploring ways to bring together two cornerstones of the modern economy—business and the arts. One such initiative was Arts Biz Mashups.
The Arts Biz Mashups program is no longer in operation, though we want to hear from you if you have an idea for how to bring our business community and arts community together.
When creative people with different skills and backgrounds come together to connect, share and discover, a new type of vibrancy is created and a potential for new ideas and innovations emerge. Urban economists refer to this as “synergistic collisions”. Steve Jobs strongly believed that for business and technology to be truly brilliant, it must be coupled with artistry. Having a connection to the arts fosters creativity and innovation in all aspects of life.
People with an artistic background often possess the ability to rapidly synthesize information and to find creative solutions to difficult problems, both of which are incredibly important skills in businesses. Likewise, in an increasingly competitive arts landscape, artists who embrace a market-driven approach to their work, with a focus on understanding the opportunities and barriers, are able to scale and engage in the growth of creative clusters.
