Official City of Barrie Town Crier

Steve Travers is the City of Barrie's Official Town Crier. Dressed in 18th century uniform with tri-corn hat and pilgrim shoes, he rings a brass bell and announces proudly and loudly the day's events.   

Steve's duties for the City include:

  • performing welcoming proclamations and 'cries' at various civic events
  • welcoming visitors to City Hall
  • proclaiming special holiday events
  • reading freedom of the City documents to worthy citizens
  • representing the community while at other events and festivals around the province
  • adding some 'pomp and ceremony' to the opening of community/charity functions
