The City is conducting a
Business Data Survey to create a list of all Barrie businesses. This data will allow the City to better understand existing business and industry classifications, business sectors, business longevity, and employment trends.
Invest Barrie brings together the Economic & Creative Development Department and the Small Business Centre to provide support and services to businesses, entrepreneurs, and the arts and culture community. We aim to make it easy for businesses of all sizes to connect to support; industry, cultural and community leaders are never more than a phone call or email away.
The City is doing everything possible, in full cooperation with the provincial and federal governments, to minimize the impact and see an economic recovery take place as soon as possible.

Small Business Centre is committed to assisting aspiring entrepreneurs of all ages realize their dreams of becoming their own bosses by providing assistance and support to small businesses in both their start-up and early growth stages.
For businesses just getting started, the
Small Business Centre provides free one-on-one consultations, access to start-up info-guides, government literature, programs and information on management, marketing, technology and financing. Monthly workshops are also available.
For existing businesses, the
Small Business Centre helps identify ways to take your business to the next level. Site visits and one-on-one consultations are available at no charge, and workshops are often offered on topics such as E-Commerce, HR, tax changes and more. Available tools include access to funding sources, business plan reviews, and referrals to professionals.
As a four-season destination, Barrie relies on tourism as an
important economic driver. Having recognized it as a growth area, City of
Barrie Council made supporting tourism growth a priority in
the City’s 2018-2022 Strategic Plan.
The numbers help tell the story of its
importance: in 2019, over 2 million domestic visitors contributed $300 million
to the local economy and supported over 8,000 jobs in Barrie. An
additional 85,000 international visitors came to the Barrie area, spending
almost $36 million.
