Bayview Drive & Big Bay Point Road Environmental Assessment Study
The City of Barrie Multi-Modal Active Transportation Master Plan (MMATMP) identified Big Bay Point Road as a key transportation corridor and recommended several transportation improvements to accommodate growth in Barrie to 2031.
On site construction is progressing well. The Contractor has temporarily widened and shifted traffic north on Big Bay Point Rd between Bayview Dr and Welham Rd to allow traffic two lanes through the construction zone. Storm sewer and road construction are on going.
On site construction has started. The Contractor is constructing a temporary widening along Big Bay Point Road to allow traffic two lanes through the construction zone. Traffic between Bayview Dr and Welham Rd can expect to be shifted to the north around the construction activities.
Utility relocation work continues along Big Bay Point between Welham Rd and Loon Ave.
The City hired Mar-King Construction Company Ltd. to complete the work. Pre-construction activities started August 23. Construction is expected to start September 7. Utility relocations have started and will continue until spring 2022.
The City's Infrastructure Department has completed the design for the widening and reconstruction of Big Bay Point Road from east of Bayview Drive to Huronia Drive. The City has started the public tendering process to hire a contractor to perform the work. The City expects to have a contractor hired in August 2021. Utility relocations have started and will continue until spring 2022.
The Big Bay Point Road intersection at Bayview Drive is part of the
Harvie Road/Highway 400 Crossing construction project. The improvements to Big Bay Point Road will continue east to Huronia Road.

The Big Bay Point Road Transportation Improvements project is expected to be a two year construction project.
To facilitate the construction of the new road, occasional lane closures will be in place. Residents can expect delays in traffic movements from 9am to 3pm periodically throughout the construction season. Detour options will be put in place to provide residents an option to avoid the delays.
Full closures at the intersection of Big Bay Point Road and Huronia Road, and Big Bay Point Road and Welham Road can also be expected occasionally throughout the construction seasons. These closures will be limited to weekends, and residents and motorists will be provided with advanced notice using construction information signs. Detour options will be put in place to provide motorists alternative routes around the closures.
