Project Updates

October 20, 2020
There will be a single lane closure on Yonge Street between Mapleview Drive East and St. Paul's Crescent on Thursday, October 22 for road work.

Previous Updates
September 25, 2020
The southbound lane of Yonge Street south of Mapleview is now open. The lane has been marked temporarily and permanent line paint is scheduled for tonight.

September 2, 2020
Sanitary main work has been completed east of Hewitt's Creek. The phase 1 watermain work has also been completed and the watermain has been tested. To accommodate the next phase of construction, the southbound lane of Yonge St. (south of Mapleview Dr.) will be closed from September 8 until October 2 to allow for transmission watermain work. Southbound traffic will be detoured around the closure (Yonge – Mapleview – Huronia – Lockhart – Yonge).

August 21, 2020
Yonge St. from Mapleview Dr. E. to St. Paul's Cresecent will have single lane closure in effect from August 24 (starting at 7 a.m.) until August 28 (ending at approximately 7 p.m.). The contractor will be working to install a watermain northerly on Yonge St. towards Mapleview Dr.

August 17, 2020
A full road closure of Yonge St. from Mapleview Drive E. to St. Paul's Cres. will take place from 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19 until approximately 6 a.m. on Thursday, August 20. This road closure is taking place to install a water main and perform associated road works.

June 19, 2020
The road is open effective 6pm today.

June 15, 2020
The section of Mapleview Dr. E. under construction will be paved on Thursday, June 18, and grading will be done this week in preparation of the paving. The road will reopen on Saturday, June 20 (time of reopening that day to be determined).

June 8, 2020
Completion of the sanitary sewer and watermain is taking place this week. Due to unforeseen ground and water conditions, the closure of Mapleview Dr. E. will be extended to Saturday, June 20 (it was originally scheduled to reopen on June 15). Final work on the curb, subdrain and asphalt will be done on June 19 so that the road can reopen on June 20.

May 28, 2020

Grouting of the water main casing and sanitary sewer casing is complete. Removal of water (dewatering) continues to be done on the south side of Mapleview east of the creek, as well as the west area. Watermain and sanitary sewer work near the Bistro 6 housing development is underway.

April 29, 2020
The road closure was expected to last until approximately May 15, but the City is extending the temporary closure for an additional month, until June 15. The delay in reopening the road is due to the frozen ground and the extensive dewatering process (removing water from the area), which progressed the work slower than originally scheduled. As well, ensuring safety and physical distancing requirements due to COVID-19 caused some delays.

March 19, 2020
The sanitary mainline work is underway and preparation is being done for the two tunnel locations under Hewitt’s Creek, one for the sanitary sewer and the other for the transmission watermain.

Project Features

Affected Services

Transit Service will be affected during full road closure. However, a detour and GO shuttle service will be provided during these times. Should you have any questions regarding public transit, please call Barrie Transit Customer Service at (705) 739-4209.

Hydro, telephone, cable TV and gas services should not be affected by the construction, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

Curbside Collection for existing residents will not be affected. On their normal curbside collection day, area residents are asked to place all garbage, organics, recyclables and yard waste materials at the front of the property as usual. The construction contractor will remove these items and take them to outside of the construction zone for pickup by the City’s waste contractor. Garbage cans, organic bins and recycling boxes will be returned to the property later that day. Please mark your address on all of your containers.

Road closures: There will be road closures throughout the project. They will be posted to, communicated to media, and posted to Facebook, Twitter, and this webpage.
