Developer Project

Mapleview Drive East Transmission Watermain
(Royal Jubilee Dr to Yonge St)

This Developer Project is identified in the City of Barrie’s Infrastructure Implementation Plan (IIP) and is required to extend potable water and fire protection to the Salem & Hewitt’s Secondary Planning Area in the south of Barrie and to improve water system security and reliability.

Mapleview Drive East Closure: March 2 – June 15, 2020
Mapleview Dr. E. is fully closed from Yonge St. to Royal Jubilee Dr. to allow for the installation of transmission watermain, sanitary trunk sewer, and associated road works. Access to St. Paul’s Church, Bistro 6 and Pace Developments is open. See Barrie Transit Service Notices for detour and GO Shuttle details.

Project Updates

May 28, 2020
Grouting of the water main casing and sanitary sewer casing is complete. Removal of water (dewatering) continues to be done on the south side of Mapleview east of the creek, as well as the west area. Watermain and sanitary sewer work near the Bistro 6 housing development is underway.

April 29, 2020
The road closure was expected to last until approximately May 15, but the City is extending the temporary closure for an additional month, until June 15. The delay in reopening the road is due to the frozen ground and the extensive dewatering process (removing water from the area), which progressed the work slower than originally scheduled. As well, ensuring safety and physical distancing requirements due to COVID-19 caused some delays.

March 19, 2020
The sanitary mainline work is underway and preparation is being done for the two tunnel locations under Hewitt’s Creek, one for the sanitary sewer and the other for the transmission watermain.

Project Features

  • 1.5km of 600mm diameter concrete pressure pipe transmission watermain
  • 0.5km of 375mm diameter concrete sanitary sewer
  • 0.5km of 375mm diameter concrete sanitary sewer
  • 0.2km of 825mm diameter concrete sanitary sewer

Estimated Start: November 2019
Estimated Completion: Fall 2020

Affected Services

Transit Service will be affected during full road closure. However, a detour and GO shuttle service will be provided during these times. Should you have any questions regarding public transit, please call Barrie Transit Customer Service at (705) 739-4209.

Hydro, telephone, cable TV and gas services should not be affected by the construction, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

Curbside Collection for existing residents will not be affected. On their normal curbside collection day, area residents are asked to place all garbage, organics, recyclables and yard waste materials at the front of the property as usual. The construction contractor will remove these items and take them to outside of the construction zone for pickup by the City’s waste contractor. Garbage cans, organic bins and recycling boxes will be returned to the property later that day. Please mark your address on all of your containers.

Road closures: There will be road closures throughout the project. They will be posted to, communicated to media, and posted to Facebook, Twitter, and this webpage.
