Traffic calming is intended to improve the quality of life and safety for residents on traffic calmed streets, by achieving slower speeds and increasing safety for all road users.
The objective of traffic calming is to achieve uniform driving patterns at reduced travel speeds. That objective is consistent with resident expectations on roads where lower speeds are desired to enhance safety and livability in communities and neighbourhoods. This objective is not available on roads where higher speeds are desired.
Traffic Services staff within the Development Services department worked with ward councillors and resident feedback collected through a
2020 online interactive mapping tool to determine the locations of
traffic calming measures for 2021.
Permanent asphalt speed cushions have been installed on the following roads:
Please refer to
traffic calming frequently asked questions for more detailed information about permanent speed cushions, including impacts on plows and buses.
Work will occur in September and October of 2021.
No service interruptions are anticipated.
The contractor's work will be focused within the travelled roadway. Although the contractor is required to conduct their work in a safe manner, we ask that motorists take extra caution during the construction period.
Minor traffic impacts should be expected as a result of short-term lane closures for traffic control. Traffic flow will be maintained throughout the work and vehicles will be unimpeded from accessing residences.
