Salem Road Double Surface Treatment

Salem Road from Highway 27 to Veteran’s Drive, excluding intersections, will be applied with a double surface treatment to improve ride quality and extend lifecycle of the road.

This project is a method of pavement construction that involves two separate applications of asphalt binder material and mineral aggregate on a prepared surface.

Project Updates

September 18, 2020

Shoulder repairs, potholes and road patching work are started and expected to be completed by the end of the day.

Project Features

This project is an end of life holding strategy in pavement management. A holding strategy is a relatively minor investment to achieve a short term service improvement until more permanent improvements are made.

The surface treatment method is ideal for rural type roadways and is less costly that asphalt. Given the forthcoming development of the Salem Secondary Plan area and current traffic volumes, surface treatment is the most cost-effective method to resurface Salem Road.

  • Low cost
  • Short construction duration
  • Improve ride quality
  • Extend lifecycle of the road
