Salem Road from Highway 27 to Veteran’s Drive, excluding intersections, will be applied with a double surface treatment to improve ride quality and extend lifecycle of the road.
This project is a method of pavement construction that involves two separate applications of asphalt binder material and mineral aggregate on a prepared surface.
Shoulder repairs, potholes and road patching work are started and expected to be completed by the end of the day.
This project is an
end of life holding strategy in pavement management. A holding strategy is a relatively minor investment to achieve a short term service improvement until more permanent improvements are made.
The surface treatment method is ideal for rural type roadways and is less costly that asphalt. Given the forthcoming development of the Salem Secondary Plan area and current traffic volumes, surface treatment is the most cost-effective method to resurface Salem Road.
No services will be impacted. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.
During this time, residents can expect minor delays and a single lane closure due to flagging operations. The speed limit on this section of the road will be reduced to 50 km/hour.
The contractor is required to conduct his work in a safe manner. We ask that you take extra caution during the construction period to ensure everyone’s safety.
