Essa Road Interchange & Highway 400 Overpass Replacement
The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has initiated detailed design for the replacement of the Essa Road interchange and overpass.
MTO has retained Stantec to complete the detailed design. The scope of work includes replacement of the interchange and highway overpass. The project limits are from Bryne Drive to east of Fairview Road. The proposed improvements will reduce traffic congestion and accommodate planned growth through the addition of vehicular lanes, bicycling and sidewalk infrastructure. Please visit hwy400essaroad.ca for full information about this MTO project.
Project Coordination
MTO is the proponent for this project, however the City is a key stakeholder. The City and MTO are working collaboratively to incorporate transportation improvements that support the needs of both local residents and the travelling public at large. These improvements will enhance the transportation network and help mitigate traffic congestion.
City Infrastructure Impacts
- Highway crossing widening (widening from 4 lanes to 6 lanes from Bryne Drive to east of Fairview Road)
- Multi-use Path on the north side of the road from Bryne Drive to east of Fairview Road
- Sidewalk on the south side.
Project Scheduling
Detailed design was initiated in 2019. The City is anticipating construction to begin in the early 2020’s. Please refer to the
MTO’s project website for the most current information regarding project scheduling.
