Dunlop & Miller Intersection Improvements

Reconstruction and widening of Dunlop Street West Tiffin Street / Miller Drive intersection. The contract was awarded to Georgian Paving. The overall budget is $5.1M including property acquisition for road right-of-way widening, utility relocations, design and construction.

Project Updates

November 24, 2017
The contractor will be preparing the site for winter shutdown. The site will be cleaned up and temporary asphalt will be placed on driveways and roadway where needed. The contractor will demobilize from the construction site and will be back Spring 2018 to complete the remaining work.

October 20, 2017

Georgian Paving plans to complete the storm sewer works next week. Watermain installation will begin after the storm sewer work is completed. Georgian Paving will continue with road excavation and granular fill to widen the road.  Dewatering operations are expected to begin next week. Sanitary sewer installation will begin after dewatering has been started.

October 3, 2017

Topsoil stripping is approximately 85% completed, and excavation on the south side is on-going. Granulars are being placed for widening of the road on the south side.

In the next two weeks, the Contractor plans to install well points for dewatering, relocate the existing hydrants on Tiffin, complete excavation on the south side and install two (2) storm culvert crossings on Dunlop.

The installation of the storm culvert crossings will occur Wednesday, October 4 and Thursday, October 5. The traffic will be reduced to a single lane, with the Contractor flagging traffic in each direction, expect delays during this work. The single lane closure will occur between the hours of 9:00am and 3:00pm on October 4 and October 5.

August 23, 2017

Georgian Paving has begun mobilization to site and installing construction signs. The Contractor will begin the temporary traffic signal installation and the excavation to construct the temporary paved lane within the next two weeks.

Traffic Impacts

All roads will remain open to through traffic during construction, although lane closures and restrictions can be expected in order to accommodate construction activities.  We ask for your patience in such instances.

Affected Services

Water service, private wells, private septic systems, Hydro, Telephone, Cable TV, and Gas services should not be affected by the construction, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

Access to Properties

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times. All reasonable efforts will be made to maintain vehicle access to driveways.  However, there may be some temporary interruptions to access during construction.  Access will be restored as quickly as possible. The contractor will provide prior notice of any imminent access restrictions to the businesses and residents. Pedestrian access to all homes and businesses will be maintained during construction.

Safety

The contractor is required to conduct his work in a safe manner, including fencing of deep excavations, etc.  We ask that you take extra caution during the construction period to ensure everyone’s safety
