JC Massey Way Emergency Stormwater Pond Repair

The City needs to make emergency repairs for Environmental Compliances to the JC Massey Way (LT14) Stormwater Pond.

The pond was constructed as part of the MTO interchange works for the Cundles / Duckworth in 2014. The pond liner and berm failed and no longer holds water.

Project Updates

April 2022

Sierra is continuing with the pond installation with the construction at 70% complete.

Previous Updates

March 2022

Sierra is continuing with the pond installation and is finalizing the placement of the clay liner, while working on the outlet structure works.

February 2022

Sierra is continuing with the pond installation and is currently placing the clay liner.

January 2022

Sierra Excavating in continuing with the pond installation that includes the underground pipe works.​

December 2021

Sierra Excavating has removed the excess sediment and is working at installing the infrastructure at the outlet of the pond.

November 2021

​Sierra Excavating has mobilized on site,  they have installed all sediment erosion control measures and are working on removing the excess sediment within the Pond.

April 2021

An Engineering Assessment was complete by Aquafor Beech Limited outlining the existing conditions of the pond and determining the route cause of the failure. The City agreed with their recommendations to reconstruct the pond with a 600mm clay liner. 

This project is currently in the design phase and the City has awarded the Engineering Design to Aquafor Beech Limited. The preliminary design was completed in January 2021, and the City anticipates the 90% submission in May 2021 with the final tender package completed by July 2021.

Englobe was selected to complete the geotechnical works for the project and are currently completing the boreholes and water monitoring for the project.

Affected Services

Water, Sanitary, Hydro, Telephone, Cable TV, and Gas services should not be affected by the upcoming construction, barring any unforeseen circumstances. 

Traffic Impacts

J.C. Massie Way will always remain open; flag persons will be used to temporarily stop vehicles to allow for material delivery and haulage during construction.
