MacMorrison Park Stormwater Retrofit
Sophia Creek flows though MacMorrision Park and is
currently prone to flooding during rain events.
The City is looking at
alternatives to provide an engineered flood control feature in MacMorrison
Park. This would help reduce flooding in the downstream areas from MacMorrison
Park to Lake Simcoe.
Project Updates
July 2021: A geotechnical investigation will be completed in August 2021. This information will be used to guide the design options.
May 2021: Consultants obtained to explore feasibility and preliminary design options. Surveyors will be out on site in June 2021 to collect topographical information.
Schedule
May to November 2021: Feasibility Study
Due to the existing culvert at Bothwell Crescent and the limited capacity in the downstream channel, the City is exploring the feasibility and preliminary design options only. If the outcome of this project is determined to be beneficial for flood control in the watershed and economically viable, the City will host a Public Information Centre to solicit public feedback on the project before proceeding with detailed design and construction.
