The Sea Serpent

The Sea Serpent is the first large donation accepted into the City’s collection by the Public Art Committee. Located in Heritage Park, the sculpture was unveiled June 28th, 2016.

Local artist Ron Baird created The Sea Serpent, companion piece to Barrie's iconic Spirit Catcher, for the 1986 World's Exposition in Vancouver. Following the event, The Sea Serpent was acquired by Jean Sellers and installed at her Oro Medonte property. Upon Jean's passing, her son Alexander moved the sculpture to his home in Kingston. Alexander donated The Sea Serpent to the City and we are most appreciative of his enormous generosity.

The committee thanks Pratt Homes, specifically Karen Hansen, for their generous contribution that made the transportation, installation, and restoration of The Sea Serpent possible. The committee also thanks Crozier and Associates Consulting Engineering, The Sarjeant Co. Ltd., Binnie Brothers Excavating, CRS Contractors Rental Supply and Stainless Outfitters Inc. for their support in making this installation possible.
