In acknowledgement of Black History Month, Doug Minter, Founder of Oro Freedom Institute, will speak about the Oro African Church which is the oldest Black built log cabin church still standing in North America. The history discussed will cover the period of 1300s to 1850s from the Empire of Mali in Africa to Canada.

Doug Minter has been a chamber of commerce executive since 2008 and works as Partnership and Sponsorship Manager for the Canadian Black Chamber of Commerce. Minter is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps (Serving in Desert Storm) as well as a former firefighter for the US Forestry Service. Minter has a passion for history and started the Oro Freedom Institute to preserve and promote the history of the Oro African Church. OFI seeks to build an interpretive centre on the site in Oro-Medonte.
