The Sophia Creek Owen Tributary Storm Outlet from Memorial Square project was completed in June 2025. The work focused on enhancing stormwater capacity and improving public spaces to help reduce the risk of flooding downtown, supporting the City’s Climate Change Adaptation Strategy goals.

This waterfront area includes a gazebo, walkways, pond, stream, bridges, gardens, transient marina, pumphouse, arboretum, Heart Barrie landmark sign, outdoor fitness station, Sea Serpent sculpture and water feature. Washrooms are open 7am–9pm daily (including holidays) in the warmer months.

The water feature is operational during warmer months; visit barrie.ca/SplashPads for current status. Due to the design of the drainage system for the water feature in Heritage Park, fountains run for 45 seconds then turn off for 90 seconds (during the operating season) to allow for full drainage and prevent flooding.
