Working within the Barrie Fire and Emergency Service department, you will be part of a dynamic team responsible for protecting the lives, well-being and property of the people of ​Barrie through dedication to life safety, commitment to community service and the preservation of the environment.​

Located at one of the City's five fire stations, you will be responsible for responding to fires, fire alarms, technical rescues, hazardous material incidents, medical emergencies, marine incidents and other emergencies. As a frontline member of Barrie Fire and Emergency Service, you will play an integral role delivering fire protection services through public education, fire safety standards and enforcement, and emergency response. 

The City of Barrie is recruiting for 5^th Class Firefighters. Consideration above this rank will not be made.

Yes, you can apply if you do not currently hold a valid OFAI Candidate Testing Certification. However, you must obtain valid OFAI Candidate Testing Services certificates for Stage 1, 2, 3, and the Swim Test by March 31, 2025. Failure to provide these certificates by the deadline will disqualify you from the recruitment process.

Yes, you can apply if you do not yet have a valid Ontario Class "D" Driver's Licence with a "Z" endorsement. However, you must obtain and provide proof of a valid licence with a "Z" endorsement upon receiving a conditional offer. A driver’s abstract, dated within 30 days, will also be required, and candidates with six or more demerit points are ineligible.
