Affected services on Canada Day weekend in Barrie

(Barrie, ON) The City of Barrie will be kicking off the summer with events, activities and fireworks this Friday, July 1. Visitbarrie.ca/CanadaDay for details.

 The following City services will be affected on Friday, July 1:

Barrie Transit

On Friday, July 1, Barrie Transit will operate on a Sunday service schedule, with extended evening trips from the Downtown Terminal to accommodate the fireworks display. For more information, visitbarrie.ca/TransitNotices.

Curbside Collection

There will be no garbage, green bin, recycling box or yard waste collection on Friday, July 1. Collection is moved to the next day. Visitbarrie.ca/CurbsideCollection for more information about garbage, organics, recycling and yard waste. The landfill will be closed on Friday, July 1. For more information on the Barrie Landfill Site, including hours of operation, visitbarrie.ca/landfill.

Reminder: Due to the health risk that extreme heat poses for manual curbside waste collectors, when Environment Canada projects a daily air temperature of 30°C or higher, or a humidex of 35°C or higher, waste collection could commence at 5:30am. If these temperatures are forecasted, residents are asked to put their waste out any time after 7pm the night before, or before 5:30am on collection day .

City Hall

Barrie City Hall will be closed on Friday, July 1.

Recreation & Community Centres

Barrie's Recreation and Community Centres will be closed on Friday, July 1.

Reminder: Summer hours for the City's three large community/recreation centres (East Bayfield, Peggy Hill Team, and Allandale) will be Monday to Friday, 6am to 9pm, effective July 2 to September 2.

Parking

Downtown parking (on-street and lots) is free on statutory holidays. Waterfront parking is enforced 24/7/365; residents must display their permits and visitors are required to pay $10/hour (daily maximum: $50). Visitbarrie.ca/Parking for details.

Fireworks reminder

Residents are permitted to use fireworks on Canada Day until 11 p.m. only (as per the Regulatory Mattersby-law). Please reviewfireworks safety reminders.
