City of Barrie’s drinking water gets perfect score

(Barrie, ON) – The City of Barrie has achieved a 100% score from the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) for drinking water quality. The rating will be published in the Ministry's Chief Drinking Water Inspector's Annual Report.

“This perfect score for our drinking water is a reflection of the diligence and the hard-work of the staff in our Water Operations Branch," said Bala Araniyasundaran, General Manager of Infrastructure. “Our staff have worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic to ensure the continued availability of safe drinking water. Residents of Barrie can feel comforted in knowing their drinking water system is operated and maintained to the highest quality standards."

The annual provincial inspection is a legislative requirement of all municipal drinking water systems under the Safe Drinking Water Act. The primary focus of the inspection is to confirm compliance with MECP legislation, as well as evaluating conformance with ministry drinking water policies and guidelines. The inspection report identified that the City of Barrie achieved full compliance with all MECP requirements.
