City celebrates July 1st as kickoff to summer

The City invites residents and visitors to celebrate July 1st(Canada Day) as a kickoff to summer with celebrations and free activities in Barrie.

There will be a variety of family friendly programs and attractions at Meridian Place starting at 2 p.m., including a display of Canadian wildlife, busker performances, airbrush tattoos, and games. Residents and visitors can also enjoy live entertainment on the Meridian Place stage featuring local performers, including Baytown Big Band and OMCI (Ontario Musicians Co-operative Inc.).

The celebrations will finish off with a fireworks display over Kempenfelt Bay starting at 10 p.m. The show will be able to be seen from multiple vantage points along the waterfront. In the case of inclement weather, the fireworks show will be held on Saturday, July 2.

Per the Regulatory Matters By-law, the City reminds residents that they are permitted to set off fireworks on the following (single calendar) days: Victoria Day, Canada Day, New Year's Day, and for the duration of the recognized Lunar New Year and Diwali holidays. Fireworks are permitted until 11 p.m. on the day of the celebration, per the Noise By-Law. Visitbarrie.ca/bylaws for more information about the display of fireworks in the city. The kickoff to summer celebrations continue Saturday, July 2 with Open Air Dunlop, presented by the Downtown Barrie BIA.
